HOW TO FIX A CAR WHICH DOESN’T START ?

Are you in front of the problem in starting your car? Well at this stage of massive dependency on the car, there is nothing annoying than starting trouble.
But need not be worried about it, it can be fixed. There may be more reasons at the rear of this trouble but you can come across some familiar reasons for the starting problem.

The reasons for difficulty in starting a car:
  1. Departed battery
  2. Defective Ignition system
  3. Broken down starter
  4. Blocked fuel filter
  5. Unfilled gas tank
  6. Inappropriate Fuel pump
By inspecting the above-mentioned points you can fix your car. There serve some preliminary steps to go after to fix your car which doesn’t start. Let’s get started:

Check for the Battery :-
Detach the battery , clean the connections with a wire brush and hook them again. If the car headlights are weak and dim or completely off may be your car battery is departed (dead).

Now check whether the earth strip of the battery is connected to the car’s body. Set the multimeter to DC and 20voltes, hook up red to the positive terminal of the battery and black to the negative terminal of the battery . Check the starter power feeder wires. If the multimeter reading is greater than 12V than the battery is working as it should be. If not there is a problem with the battery and you need to go for the jump start your car battery with the other car.

How to jump-start the car battery?
Step1: Connect the jumper cables to both vehicle batteries with both cars off condition.
Step2: Now start the donor car for a few minutes.
Step3: After few minutes switch on the receiving car and do not start it.
Step4: After few minutes start the power receiving car and run further.
Note:
1. Connect the black clamp of the jumper cable to the negative terminal of the battery and red clamp to the positive terminal of the battery.
2. Witch off the AC and lights of the car.

Check for the Ignition system :-
Here are more than a few things to be considered while inspecting spark plugs. The plug may be worn-out. Check the spark plug gap, for the modern engines, this spark plug gap varies from 0.6-0.7mm. Check for the oil fouling or carbon deposits around the spark plug tip. Inspect the gasket where the plug seals with the head, and ensure the electrode insulator is not cracked. It is recommended to use anti-seize.

Check for the spark plug wire :-
First, do the visual inspection; look for any physical damage to the wire such as cuts. Clean the metallic part of the wire if it is corroded. By keeping the engine on, spray the water all over the wire and the boots and check for the arching or smoke.

However, you can test the wire by using the multimeter by setting it to ohm’s reading. Fix the nail to the terminals and insert inside the ends of the wire, if the meter reads around 10k to 20k ohms per foot of the wire than the wire is not the culprit. If there is no reading on the meter probably the wire is dead and has to be replaced.

Check for the starter :-
Once you find that the car battery is fine, check for the starter. In most of the situation when the starter goes dad is unexpected and random.
The starter may be located at the top or at the bottom in the vicinity of the cylinder, take the hammer or any firm component and tap on to the starter for few times. Now start the car if it’s gets started than the starter may be bad.

If not try to Start the car and simultaneously turn on the headlights, you may notice that car starts making the sound as if it’s going to start but won’t start by headlights dim which indicate the pinion of starter may be jammed or clicking sound by headlights dim than here may be the battery Problem.

By means of the spanner turn the pinion stub at one end of the cylinder and try to start the car. If no stub is provided i.e. manual transmission than keep the car in off and second gear conditions release the emergency brake and shake the car back and forth in this manner you can loosen the jammed pinion.

Check for the fuel filter and fuel Pump:-
  1. Situate and remove the fuel lines to the filter.
  2. Place the jar underneath the filter to collect the fuel and degas it.
  3. Remove the filter from its band.
  4. Clean the filter with carburetor cleaner.
  5. Remove any debris or fuel residuals.
  6. Dry and reinstall it.

While checking to see a fuel pump, confirm there's fuel in the tank, make use of a gauge to check fuel pressure, a car with a port-injected pump should have read between 30 and 80 PSI if not there may be a problem with fuel pump.
