Mechatronics engineering is a multidisciplinary segment of the engineering field.Over the last decade there has been an exponential growth in Mechatronics and intelligent systems activity, a growth that has lead to the development of exciting new products used in every day life. The discipline of Mechatronics is enormous in magnitude.Ideally, it combines mechanics, electronics, software engineering, information systems, communication, control and artificial intelligence.

Mechatronics is defined as the field of study involving the analysis, design, synthesis, and selection of systems that combine electronic and mechanical components with modern controls and microprocessors. Mechatronics is an engineering field that refers to mixed systems’ tight integration. Currently, this integration can be viewed as based on digital computer monitoring and control, but it cannot be denied that integration can be based on any other signal processing system and any form of raw power that can be modulated and transferred to the mixed system in accordance with the output
of the digital signal processor. Mechatronics refers to monitoring, control and integration not only of lumped parameters systems, but also of distributed parameters systems. This interdisciplinary approach is valuable to students because virtually every newly designed engineering product is a Mechatronic system.

The program allows engineers to design, construct and run factory production lines and automated processes, where they use their skills in computers, micro-controllers, programmable logic controllers, programming, industrial sensors, hydraulic, pneumatic and electric drives, design of mechanical structures and mechanisms and knowledge of manufacturing processes.

The main advantage after the completion of this course is that one can not only work in the field of mechatronics, but has equal opportunities in the other areas such as electrical, systems, computer engineering etc. This is a field which can be applied in many of the areas

  • Develop new solutions to industrial problems using mechanical and electronic processes and computer technology.
  • Create embedded software design programs.
  • Design and build completely new products by integrating various technologies, for example, developing robotic vehicles for underwater exploration.
  • Build and test factory production lines introducing automation to improve existing processes.
  • Maintain and improve previous industrial and manufacturing processes and designs, for example, robotic lawn mowers and robot floor cleaners.
  • Design, develop, maintain and manage high technology engineering systems for the automation of industrial tasks.
  • Publish engineering reports documenting design details or qualification test results.
  • Create mechanical models and tolerance analyses to simulate mechatronic design concepts.
  • Apply mechatronic or automated solutions to the transfer of material, components or finished goods.
  • Apply advanced control systems, which are usually computer-driven.
  • Apply electronic and mechanical processes and computers to tasks where the use of human labour may be dangerous (like underwater exploration, mining or forestry).
  • Study the feasibility, cost implications and performance benefits of new mechatronic equipment.
  • Carry out modelling, simulation and analysis of complex mechanical, electronic or other engineering systems using computers.
  • Package electronics like printed circuit boards, sensors, connectors and cabling.
  • Install and debug actuators into vehicles.
