Point Functions:-
The point function is also know as state function.Point function are those function which depend upon the initial and final point of the curve and is not affected by the path of the curve ,even if the path of the function is changed but the initial and the final points are the same then the function will give the same value .In other words,we can say that point function are those function which depend upon the initial and final point of the curve and is not affected by the path of the curve ,even if the path of the function is changed but the initial and the final points are the same then the function will give the same value .Such as pressure, volume, enthalpy, internal energy.
Path Function :-
Path function is depends upon the path at which system arrives at a given state. Example,Work and Heat..If their path is changed keeping the initial and final point same , their value will change. In other words, path function are those functions whose value depends upon the path traced by them .If their path is changed keeping the initial and final point same , their value will change.
Difference Between Path Function and Point Function :-

Path Function
|
1
|
Any
quantity whose change is independent of the path is known as point function.
|
Any
quantity, the value of which depends on the path followed during a change of
state is known as path function.
|
2
|
The
magnitude of such quantity in a process depends on the state.
|
The
magnitude of such quantity in a process is equal to the area under the curve
on a property diagram.
|
3
|
These
are exact differential.
|
These
are inexact differential. Inexact differential is denoted by δ
|
4

Properties
are the examples of point function like pressure(P),
volume(V),Temp.(T),Energy etc.

Heat and work
