HEAT PUMP (VS) AIR CONDITIONING CLEARLY EXPLAINED

Heat pumps and air conditioners share all internal components, but their mode of operation is quite different. The mode of operation for heat pumps is known as the reverse refrigeration cycle, whereas air conditioners operate on a regular vapor compression cycle. Although we can technically call an air conditioner a heat pump, the term “heat pump” is generally used to refer to an HVAC system that can pump heat inside or outside.

Air conditioners, heat pumps, and refrigerators all use a similar process to transfer heat energy. If you have ever taken a look behind your refrigerator, you may have noticed coils that can get hot to the touch. This is where the heat from inside the refrigerator is dispensed.Although many people think that air conditioners and refrigerators add cool air to indoor spaces, they actually subtract heat from the air.

They are absorbing heat inside and then discharging it outdoors. By doing so, the air inside cools down. So, when a heat pump reverses itself to heat your home, it is functionally air conditioning the outside environment by extracting heat from the outdoor spaces and transferring it indoors.

Here are the some Difference between Heat Pump and Air Conditioning :-

S:No
HEAT PUMP
AIR CONDITIONING
1
Heat pump can be used for both Heating and cooling Purpose
Air conditioning is only Used for Cooling the Buildings
2
Best for Climates that Hot summers and Winters as cold as -12° .
Best for Climates that have Hot summers.
3
Transfer heat rather than Create hot and  cold air by using reverse Refrigeration Cycle.
Uses a regular varpour compression to create the Cold air.
4
Heat pumps installation cost is higher than AC
Installation cost is lower than heat pump.
5
Heat Pumps are not long lasting when we compared to Air conditionings because they operate 12 months/year.
Air Conditionings are long lasting when we compared with Heat Pumps Because they are only use when the weather is Hot .
6
Will lower heating bills
Does not impact heating Bills
7
Heat Pump are more expansive than Air conditionings .
Less expansive when compared to heat pumps.
8
Heat pumps last upto 12 to 15 years on Average.
Air Conditioning last upto 15 to 20 years on Average.
9
Heat Pumps use the condenser to generate heat.
While in air conditioner’s condenser used to Expel Heat.
10
Coefficient  of Performance is higher than Air conditionings.
Coefficient  of Performance is less when we compared to Heat Pumps .
